As the festive season continues underway, the city of London transforms into a winter wonderland, adorned with glittering lights, enchanting displays, and bustling Christmas markets. In this guide, I will take you on a journey through some of the most iconic and lesser-known holiday destinations in the city, ensuring you make the most of your Christmas in London.

1.Christmas Markets

a. South Bank Christmas Market (Nov 2nd - Dec 26th): Nestled along the Thames, the South Bank Christmas Market offers a sensory delight with its vibrant atmosphere. Explore stalls brimming with unique drinks from mulled wine and cider to peppermint hot cocoa, indulge in delectable treats like chocolate covered strawberries and authentic crepes, and immerse yourself in the festive melodies that fill the air!

b. Covent Garden Christmas Market (Nov 7th - Jan 3rd): This market brings together an eclectic mix of music, food, and snow-filled festivities. Located in a bustling shopping market, Covent Garden provides all kinds of entertainment from the artisan craft stalls, to the vast array of snacks and foods, and to the huge Christmas tree display paired with lights and color everywhere you turn. I also recommend visiting the most festive bar in London: Miracle at Henrietta in the Henrietta Hotel in Covent Garden.

Other fan-favorite markets include: Leicester Square (Nov 9th - Jan 8th), Borough Market (Nov 28th - Dec 31st), and Greenwich Market (Nov 15th - Jan 1st)!

2. Dazzling Lights and Displays

a. Oxford Street, Carnaby Street, Regent Street: London's renowned shopping districts don their festive best, with Oxford Street, Carnaby Street, and Regent Street becoming radiant spectacles of light and color. Join the crowds to witness the grandeur of these iconic displays that set the city ablaze with holiday cheer.

b. Seven Dials, Old Bond Street, Marylebone Village: Escape the bustling crowds without compromising on the enchantment. Seven Dials, Old Bond Street, and Marylebone Village offer a quieter but equally magical experience, with beautifully lit streets and charming displays that evoke the true spirit of Christmas.

There are many very popular Christmas Walks to view all these displays that range from an hour to two hours. I recommend starting at Bond Street Station (South Milton Street, to Brook Street, and through Old & New Bond Street displays), then there is the Bulington Arcade, Fortum and Mason Advent Calendar, and through a passage way leading towards Regent Street, Soho, Carnaby Street, Christmas at Leicester Square, and Seven Dials. Finally, you will end at Covent Garden!

3. Skating and Festive Delights

a. Battersea Power Station: Lace up your skates and twirl under the stars at Battersea Power Station. With its ice skating rink and dazzling displays, this iconic venue provides a perfect blend of winter activities and festive ambiance.

b. Somerset House: Immerse yourself in the magic of the season at Somerset House. Glide across the ice, surrounded by stunning architecture and enchanting holiday decorations, making it an ideal destination for a winter-themed day out.

4. Winter Wonderland: London's Premier Christmas Extravaganza

Winter Wonderland stands as the epitome of Christmas celebrations in London. This festival and amusement park in Hyde Park includes ice skating, thrill rides, an ice bar, ferris wheel, brilliant light displays and decoration, and lots of food and drinks in their market place. While it may be the most popular, it's worth noting that the experience comes with a price, especially during peak times when there are endless queues. For a more budget-friendly option, consider visiting during off-peak days to enjoy the myriad of activities.

London during the holidays is a spectacle that captures the imagination and warms the heart. Whether you're navigating the bustling markets, taking in the dazzling lights, or gliding across the ice, the city offers an abundance of festive experiences for everyone. Embrace the magic of the season and create cherished memories in this winter wonderland.
