As our trip to Greece came to a close, we spent some of our remaining time on the island of Milos. While the majority of my travel companions agreed that Milos was their favorite island that we visited, I still hold a special fondness for Paros. Nonetheless, Milos was an exciting adventure that came highly recommended by the friendly locals we met in Athens. Here are some of the highlights from our time in Milos:
1. Whole Day Boat Rental
We kicked off our Milos adventure with an entire day of boating through Poseidon Boat Rentals. This was unanimously everyone's favorite activity. With the five of us, we had the freedom to drive the boat ourselves, starting from Agia Kiriaki Beach on the island's southern side. We navigated along the coast all the way to the westernmost point, Kleftiko Beach. The day was filled with sights of luxurious yachts, stunning salt formations, a flying fish, and even a sea turtle! Poseidon Boat Rentals exceeded our expectations, providing goggles for swimming and arranging transportation to and from the docking point. This boat rental experience was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our entire trip.
2. Kostantakis Cave Winery
Our second day on the island took us to the northern side, where we visited the family-run Kostantakis Cave Winery. Despite the vineyards not being in their prime, the tour was exceptional. This winery, which has been operated by the same family for over three generations, produces wines exclusively for the island. Tasting six different varieties of Greek wine and one homemade liquor was a delightful experience, and I only wish we could have brought some bottles home. This visit was one of my personal favorites, providing a unique and flavorful glimpse into the local wine culture.
3. O! Hamos! Tavern
Recommended by a local, O! Hamos! Tavern was a charming restaurant nestled on Papikinou Beach, conveniently close to our accommodations. Specializing in goat and lamb dishes, this former butchery-turned-restaurant offered a memorable meal. We even paired our dinner with some of the delectable Kostantakis wine. The atmosphere, combined with the delicious food, made this dining experience one of the highlights of our time in Milos.
4. Sea Sun Sophia
One of the most pleasant surprises of our trip was meeting Sophia from Sea Sun Sophia. We first encountered her when we needed a ride to the boat rental on short notice. With no Uber services and expensive taxis on the island, Sophia was a lifesaver. She was accommodating, sweet, knowledgeable, and always ready to help, even picking us up late after dinner one evening. Her reasonable prices and the ability to accommodate our entire group made traveling around Milos a breeze. I highly recommend reaching out to Sea Sun Sophia for all your traveling needs when visiting Milos.
Reflecting on our time in Milos, I am filled with gratitude for the unforgettable experiences and the warm hospitality we encountered. This island, with its breathtaking landscapes, delicious cuisine, and friendly locals, truly captured our hearts. If you ever find yourself in Greece, make sure Milos is on your itinerary – you won't be disappointed!
Best,
