Hi everyone!
This past month, my family and I took a trip to experience all that the City of Love: Paris has to offer. Paris is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world, and I absolutely adored the architecture and structure of the city along with its food and sites, even in the freezing cold! Here are some of our favorite things we did, as well as a few things to be aware of when visiting.
Sights and Activities
Arc de Triomphe
No trip to Paris is complete without seeing this iconic arch. It is a beautiful structure that I could have stared at for hours if the area was not so busy. Additionally, on the same road is Champs-Elysées, a famous shopping street perfect for those looking to shop at big designer brands.
Chinatown
Located in the 13th arrondissement, Chinatown is full of cozy family-run restaurants around every corner with delicious smells wafting out at all times of the day. It's a great place to find an authentic meal without spending too much. They also had boba shops that made me feel like I was back in Seattle!
Jardin des Tuileries
Even in the winter, this beautiful park near the Louvre offered green space to relax with statues and fountains to enjoy. While my family enjoyed views from the lawn chairs, my mom and I walked through the trails and around the park to enjoy the flora and art decorated throughout.
Latin Quarter
The historic student area in the 5th arrondissement is full of music, art, and history to discover. As well as delicious food and a bustling night life.
Basilique du Sacré-Cœur
The iconic white basilica in Montmartre offers stunning city views from its domes and steps. On some days, you can walk the steps to the top of the cathedral and see panoramic views of the city for five euros.
Musée Rodin
For art lovers, this museum displays works by sculptor Auguste Rodin set in a beautiful garden. It does cost fourteen euros, but there are many opportunities for free entry so make sure to check out the website before to see if you qualify!
Things to Be Aware Of
Eiffel Tower
While it is fairly necessary for a first-time tourist to see the Eiffel Tower, I highly recommend staying out of the park directly underneath the tower as this is a highly sought-after area for mugging and pickpocketing. Instead, if you are only looking for a picture, I recommend walking the Sein and taking pictures from the bridge where you have an unobstructed view.
Phone/wallet use
Keep valuable items tucked away in front and/or zipper pockets, and listen to directions with one earbud to stay aware of your surroundings. People on the street will target those who are too distracted on their phones as an opportunity to steal their valuables.
Alertness
Sadly, we did witnessed a robbery in Montmartre, so even when you think it will not happen to you, it might. Stay alert, look out for those in your group, and trust your instincts if a situation feels unsafe. The police did respond quickly when needed, and the robber was caught.
Overall, we enjoyed the beautiful sights, history, food and atmosphere of Paris. With a bit of awareness, everyone can safely experience all the City of Love has to offer!
Best,
